Project Introduction We embarked on a project to refresh Kalamuna's brand identity, focusing on updating the logo, colors, fonts to reflect the company's growth and to ensure consistency across all platforms. This initiative aimed to enhance brand recognition and streamline the design process for our team.


BackgroundOriginally created in 2013, Kalamuna's "gem" logo represented our beginnings as a startup dedicated to designing and developing sites for mission-driven organizations. With advancements in technology and an expanded reach by 2024, it became clear that our branding needed to evolve to keep pace with modern design standards and our company's trajectory.

Key Features
  1. Updated Color System: Developed a new color palette with ten saturation variations for each color, ensuring visual consistency, balance, and vibrancy across all platforms.
  2. Logo Redesign: Standardized the gem's hexagons using a precise grid, resulting in a symmetrical, balanced, and visually appealing logo that reflects Kalamuna's dedication to precision and aesthetic excellence.
  3. Font Upgrade: Updated the font from Futura to Futura Now to achieve a modern, sleek appearance that enhances readability and aligns with contemporary design trends.




Previous Design





The original logo featured an abstract "gem" composed of seven irregular hexagons and a color palette that lacked optical balance. The wordmark used the classic Futura Bold typeface, which appeared less geometric and somewhat dated. These elements led to inconsistencies in reproduction across different media, affecting legibility and overall brand cohesion.



Brand  Renewal



1. Colours
To ensure consistent hue and saturation across the logo, we developed a new color palette. By creating ten saturation variations for each of the six colors used in the gem, we manually adjusted them to achieve visual consistency and balance. This adjustment makes the logo vibrant and legible across all platforms, from mobile screens to printed materials.






2. Font system
Transitioning from Futura Bold to Futura Now modernized the wordmark. This updated typeface offers sleeker, more geometric character shapes that align seamlessly with the refined gem design. The new font enhances readability and gives the logo a contemporary feel.




Logo
To create a more symmetrical and balanced gem, we standardized all seven hexagons to be identical in size and shape by constructing a precise grid. This meticulous redesign ensures a harmonious and visually appealing composition, reflecting Kalamuna's commitment to precision and aesthetic excellence.




Font

To give the logo a modern and sleek look, we updated the font from Futura to Futura Now. This change enhances readability and provides a contemporary feel that aligns with our refreshed brand identity.


Impact



Impact

The refreshed logo and brand assets have significantly improved visual consistency and brand recognition. Standardizing colors and typography eliminated inefficiencies and reduced frustration among team members, saving time and resources. The cohesive visual identity strengthens our presence across various touchpoints, building trust and reliability with our audience.
